I’m Stephen Drummond, a seasoned professional with over 30 years of experience in the fascinating and ever-evolving tobacco industry. I’ve been privileged enough to witness and participate in the transformation and evolution of this industry, contributing to my comprehensive understanding of its complexities, its challenges, and its opportunities.
I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the leading names in the industry such as British American Tobacco (BAT), Philip Morris International, and Lorillard. My roles have varied from brand development, regulatory compliance, quality assurance to executive leadership, providing me with a broad perspective of the industry.
In the course of my career, I’ve witnessed the introduction of vaping, the adaptation to changing regulations, and the growth of alternative tobacco products. One of the most significant milestones of my career was leading a team at BAT that introduced a revolutionary heat-not-burn product in the European market.
My contributions have been recognized both within and outside the industry. I’m proud to be a two-time recipient of the ‘Tobacco Industry Innovator of the Year’ award and I was honored to give the keynote speech at the Global Tobacco & Nicotine Forum in 2022.
Currently, I am based in the United Kingdom, enjoying the rich history and picturesque landscapes, yet still staying connected to the international tobacco community. I have found that the tobacco industry is truly global, providing unique challenges and opportunities no matter where you reside.
In my spare time, I enjoy indulging in a bit of fly-fishing, a hobby I’ve held dear since my youth. It helps me relax and connect with nature. I also maintain a collection of vintage cigars, some of which date back to the early 1900s. It’s not just a hobby, but a reminder of the enduring allure of tobacco, its history, and its significance across cultures.
Maintaining a positive, cheerful, and friendly approach is vital to me, both personally and professionally. I believe that every problem can be solved and every challenge overcome with a positive attitude, constructive dialogue, and mutual respect.
